Punta Cana has high hopes for 2019. Punta Cana is one of the few Caribbean destination that scapes the fury of these Hurricanes, not the same can be said for Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Croix and Providenciales and many other small islands in the Caribbean, this unfortunate event has provided Punta Cana with the opportunity to the be once again the prefer destination for 2019 and part of 2018. The Dominican Republic is projecting over 6 million stayover visitors this year, according to an analysis of the Ministry of Tourism. The tourism growth rate was about 8 % in the quarter of 2016 leading the Caribbean with a total of 5.6 million visitors That projection comes from the analysis showing the country easily led the entire Caribbean in total visitor numbers last year, with just under 5.6 million. The Dominican Republic has a solid project to reach a goal of over 10 million visitors by 2023
